Discovery ProgramThe Discovery Program is a program designed to provide educational therapy for students with learning problems. The Discovery Center's purpose is to ultimately develop self-reliance and logical thinking in academic and social-living situations. The Discovery Center provides educational therapy to strengthen areas of perceptual therapy and cognitive weakness, so that the students may achieve their full potential in the classroom. Educational therapy is not tutoring. Educational therapy is intense, individualized therapy designed to develop and integrate perceptual and cognitive skills. Parents are actively involved in the therapy program. They work in close cooperation with the therapist to supervise daily homework activities throughout the school year. All Discovery Center students receive three hours of individual therapy each week. Students remain enrolled in age appropriate regular classrooms. The average length of stay in the Discovery Center program is three years. An additional fee is charged for the services. Therapists are qualified educators who have received additional training in educational therapy techniques for the learning disabled offered through Norfolk Institute for Learning Disabilities.
Learning Support ProgramThe Learning Support Program is designed to provide assistance to students experiencing academic difficulties. through individualized instruction in the basic skills, especially reading and math, a good foundation is laid to ensure continued progress. Improvement in school skills is achieved by beginning instruction where difficulty was first experienced, building to new and higher levels of achievement. New students are given the opportunity to learn any necessary skills in order to make a smooth transition to CFA. Classes are offered on a private basis by the remedial specialist during the summer as well as continued support throughout the school year. The learning support teacher works closely with the classroom teacher to assure continued success.
